![]() ![]() SmartDraw landscaping software looks powerful. The details of the elements, like the colours and textures of gravel, are nifty. However, its classic interface seems like a great way to practice if you are trying to learn and visualize what can fit into a measured space by nudging elements around. SmallBluePlanner’s Garden Planner 3 (requires Flash) allows you to create a plan, but you can’t save or print it.The Old Farmer’s Almanac also has a Garden Planner, and it’s mobile-friendly.Mother Earth News Garden Planner and their Vegetable Garden Planner. So here’s a short list (I’ve received no endorsements and can make none, this is just quick research): Usually, I’d point you in the direction of native plants for reasons of beauty and biophilia, but food production is the focus. But if you have good planters to keep them, having extra seedlings can come in handy! A few garden planning resources you can try And then I failed at doing the successive plantings, and the backyard was too shady and plagued with pests and thieves (slugs in particular, even with a welcome skunk here to eat them), so it wasn’t very productive. It was SO MUCH work, way more plants than my yard had space for. In one of my first big years here, I made super-awesome plans for a SPIN farm. There’s not a lot of free space for me to plant until I see what’s already successful – and that won’t be until Montreal’s traditional Big Gardening Weekend, the third weekend in May. Last year I concentrated on planting native species, so now I have to wait and see what will come up. If you would like the PDF, subscribe to the email list below, and reply with your request! If you want to see a cheat sheet on when to plant certain kinds of seeds in Montreal, here’s one I created: When to start certain kinds of seeds indoors. I have a fine collection of seeds and a cute little terrarium to plant them in, but I have to dedicate the hour needed to do the job. I’ve not started any seeds yet this year, and I’m almost always late at it. Planning helps deal with this disappointment. It will give you an idea how many seedlings you should start or have on hand of each kind of plant.įirst, know that we gardeners always get overambitious and end up tending tonnes of seedlings we have to give away! What’s worse is planting seeds that never germinate, or else germinate and fail. Well, here we are, late March! Are you ready to design the layout of your garden?įor those who have space, those who’ve not planted a garden before, or those who get to plan theirs anew every year, you need to have a rough plan. ![]() The Files app provides something of a centralized content management repository, but this actually feels regressive, sort of like like falling back to using Finder/File Manager. When Apple added the Files feature to iOS the different storage locations and different file formats became less of an issue. In many cases the file formats are unique to the app and others are simple text formats like markdown. ![]() The net result is that I have content created by many apps spread across many different storage locations and in several different file formats. It's wicked fast but I wouldn't trust it for anything personal or sensitive. The only concern I have with SimpleNote is that it uses its own proprietary synchronization service. It's a decent outliner and has native support on Windows, MacOS, and Linux (64-bit) as well as a web app. For simplicity in a cross platform app nothing beats the free SimpleNote app. Not that simple is a bad thing, paper notepads and pens are simple. Apple's Notes app is "okay" in the same sense that most of Apple's built-in apps are "okay" but it's still quite bare bones (minimalist) and even the outlining numbering support is pitifully weak. OneNote mostly fits all my needs but is lacking native Linux support. Over the past few years the need for native cross platform support, centralized synchronization, non-subscription based licensing, and to a lesser extent Apple Pencil support (on iOS) have risen to top level requirements - for me. I've also found mind mapping tools very useful, especially XMind and MindManager, but they can be clumsy on small form factor devices like iPhone. OneNote is primarily a hierarchical outlining tool, unlike OmniOutliner. I still use it today but it can be slow to open and sync and is shockingly lacking features that should be a no-brainer for this type of app, e.g., search and replace. The one app that's remained in use the longest, for about 15 years, is Microsoft OneNote. Through it all I still found myself resorting to notepads, ideally those with quadrille paper, whiteboards, and in the past decade taking pictures of whiteboards (Microsoft Lens works well for this). My search started with Sidekick for DOS and has progressed through all manner of apps on DOS, Windows, Mac, Linux, and iOS. I'm a total sucker for this category of app and I'm always searching but never quite finding one single app that will fill all of my needs. The Conley form is used to build concrete, set-theoretic models of spectral spaces, or Priestley spaces, of bounded, distributive lattices and their finite coarsenings. For bounded, distributive lattices the general notion of `set-difference'taking values in a semilattice is introduced, and is called the Conley form.
